Mercedes Service A vs Service B: What's Included and What It Should Cost

17 June 2026  //  5 min read  //  Peninsular Motors, Crestmead

If you own a Mercedes-Benz, your dash periodically tells you it’s time for “Service A” or “Service B” - and the dealership quote that follows can be an unpleasant surprise. Here’s what those services actually are, and what they should really cost.

Service A - the “minor” service

Service A typically falls around every 25,000 km or 12 months (your car’s ASSYST system calculates the exact timing). It generally includes:

  • Synthetic engine oil and filter change (to Mercedes-Benz specification)
  • Fluid level checks and corrections across the vehicle
  • Tyre pressure check and correction
  • Brake component inspection
  • Full-vehicle inspection and reset of the maintenance counter

Typical Brisbane dealership price: $500-$700. At Peninsular Motors: from $395 - same specification, genuine-quality parts and oils.

Service B - the “major” service

Service B usually alternates with Service A (roughly every 25,000 km, offset by a year) and adds deeper items:

  • Everything in Service A
  • Cabin dust/combination filter replacement
  • Brake fluid exchange (a genuine safety item, often due at B intervals)
  • Additional inspections: steering, suspension, driveline, body and electrical systems

Typical Brisbane dealership price: $800-$1,200. At Peninsular Motors: from $650, with a full itemised quote before we start.

Why the dealer costs more for the same schedule

The service schedule is identical - it’s published by Mercedes-Benz and every qualified workshop follows the same one. What differs is the overhead attached to your invoice: the showroom, the corporate network, the $200+ hourly rate. Factory training and correct parts are non-negotiable; the glass tower is optional.

The part most independents can’t offer

Since Mercedes-Benz abolished paper service books, your service history lives in the factory’s online Digital Service Book (DSB). Only authorised workshops can write to it - and an entry from an authorised independent reads exactly like a dealer entry, protecting your resale value and supporting warranty and goodwill claims.

Peninsular Motors is one of a limited number of independent workshops in Queensland with DSB authorisation. Every Mercedes service we complete is recorded on the factory system - here’s how the Digital Service Book works.
